An Unexpected Email

Have you ever received an email that wasn’t for you?  The story is told of preacher’s wife who got a very surprising email from her husband.  She did not handle it very well.

Business people Mr and Mrs Johnson planned a summer holiday together but at the last minute something came up and Mrs Johnson couldn’t leave with her husband on the same day,  She said you go and I’ll come tomorrow.  When Mr Johnson arrived at their holiday destination he sent his wife an email, but he got the address wrong and his email went to a preacher’s wife whose husband, sadly, had just passed away.

When the preacher’s wife read the email she screamed and fainted and fell off her chair!  Her family rushed in to her aid and this is what they read on the screen:

Dearest wife, I’ve arrived safely.  Our room is very nice.  See you tomorrow. It is very hot down here!

Truth is friends we aren’t here for a long time and we really don’t know what tomorrow will bring.  So I urge you to cherish the time you have with your spouse and your children and your grandchildren and your friends.  Life is short and life is fragile and we must handle with care.  Human beings need good relationships.  Good relationships take time and they take work and they need maintenance.  But the joy and the blessing of a good relationship is a great reward.  We live in a fast paced world and sometimes we can take the ones closest to us for granted.  No one ever went to the grave saying, “I wish I’d worked more.” or saying, “I wished I had more material possessions.”

Good relationships take time and they take work and they need maintenance.  But the joy and the blessing of a good relationship is a great reward.

Good relationships are really the most valuable things we have.  Is there someone you need to make peace with today?  Is there someone you need to forgive today?  Be brave and just do it.  You won’t regret it!  Jesus said “blessed are the peace makers for they will be called sons of God.”  You can read it in Mathew 5:9.

Why not do something kind for someone today?  Why don’t you tell someone that you love them today?  It will change their world just in case you get an email that’s not meant for you.

God bless you heaps

Pastor Nigel
