How do we build our capacity?

How long can you hold your breath when you swim under water? One minute? Two minutes? Or more?  Truth is, life is not always fair and yes sometimes life is hard.  Life is filled with situations and circumstances that can cause pressure:  Work * Family * Children * Pets Friends * Finances * Health * Relationships * Responsibilities * Commitments * even Church!
How much pressure can you handle? That’s a good question. How much pressure you can handle depends on your capacity.  So what is your capacity?  Pressure from any source can come and go but it’s what you do with that pressure that makes the difference.  Whatever pressure you are facing today I just want to encourage you to “build” Instead of “buckle“, use the pressure to “build“.  Don’t let the pressure cause you to “buckle“.

Olympic swimmers know how to increase their capacity to hold their breath so they can build themselves into the strongest athlete they can be.  Our busy lifestyle these days has a way of causing pressure and the easy way out is to “buckle“.  But God wants you to “build”.  God wants to increase your capacity to handle the pressures of life.  God wants to “build“ you into all that he has created you to be!

Olympic swimmers practice holding their breath for longer and longer periods of time to expand their lung capacity.  Is it hard work? Sure is, but the rewards are worth it! We may not be in the Olympics and we may not desire a gold medal but we can still build with the power of God! You can have the power of God simply by inviting Him into your heart.  Ephesians 3:20 says this to us…

Now to him who can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us

The best thing we can have to cope with the difficulties and the pressures of life is to have God in our life living within us. God wants you to thrive, not just survive.  God wants to help you increase your capacity so you can be all that He has made you to be.  Let him build you strong so you won’t buckle.

God bless you heaps

Pastor Nigel.
