Is Pain Good For You?

Here’s the question.  Is pain good for you?  Pain can be physical or emotional.  None of us like pain but we all have to go through it sometime.  British scientists have recently discovered that during a heart attack, pain signals from the nerves around your heart actually cause stem cells from the bone marrow in your bones to come to the damaged area of your heart to repair the damage and restore blood flow!  The research shows that to give heart attack patients pain relievers actually reduced their chance of survival.

Most of us have been educated to avoid pain and we’ve been told that pain is bad for us.  Before you reach for the panadol or wipe that person off your Christmas card list, maybe there’s something to be gained by going through pain with the right attitude?  Pain can make you bitter or it can make you better.  The choice is yours.  What would happen if we actually embraced the pain and understood that the pain has a purpose and there is a process to go through?

Have you ever asked God this question, ”Why me?  If God really loves me, why do I have this pain in my life?” Here’s a better question, What can I learn from this pain?  How can I grow through this experience?  What does God want to show me during the hardest times of my life?

Truth is when we don’t understand what God is doing it’s a good time to trust that God knows what He’s doing.  Pain should cause us to run to God, not run from God!  God knows you, God cares about you and God loves you.  He wants a relationship with you and all it takes is faith the size of a mustard seed to bring you through what you’re going through.  Hold on to your faith!  God won’t let you down.  Romans 8:28 tells us that:

God works all things together for our good.

So be encouraged today.  Your best days and your best relationships are yet to come!  Don’t focus on the negative, look for the good in people.  Be kind, gentle and generous and trust God.

God bless you heaps
